A slow spring kicked off the 2006 growing season. Some late season rains delayed bud break slightly, but summer came on quickly, and we all remember those record-breaking temperatures during July’s heat wave. Pushed by the heat, but tempered by Mendocino’s coastal influence, the grapes ripened with exceptional flavors. Yields were down somewhat, furthering the quality of the harvest.

Mendocino County has warm days like Napa Valley and Sonoma County, but cooler nights, which accentuates the delicate flavor nuances in the grapes, as well as promoting a refreshing crispness. Our H&W Estate Vineyard showcases that classic Mendocino County character superbly.

Tasting Notes

Our Stone Creek 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, Mendocino County was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to highlight the crisp, vibrant fruit character of the varietal. It has fragrant aromas of pineapple, lemon, and apricot, and flavors of lemon, lime, peach, and grapefruit on the palate. Drink now through 2008.

Pairing Suggestions

We recommend serving with cold oysters or Dungeness crab, fresh goat cheeses, delicate fish, fresh spinach and mandarin orange salad, and pasta primavera.
